The book looks at the Pentecostal movement in Italy and briefly presents its history and doctrinal identity.
The analysis deepens for the period between 1935 and 1955, i.e. the twenty years of power of the Circular Buffarini Giudi who forbade this worship as damaging first to “race” (in the fascist age), then to “health” (in the republican age). The constitution of the Assemblies of God in Italy and their fight for religious freedom, asserting the recent Constitution, creates a beautiful page in the history not only of evangelism but also of Italian society as a whole in those years.
The author, using archival and bibliographical sources, intertwines the events of Pentecostal history with those of the cultural, political and social life of Italy in a moment of great post-war upheavals. In short: a story to be proud of.
Giancarlo Rinaldi taught the History of Christianity at Naples Eastern University. He was particularly interested in the relationship between Christianity and paganism with special attention to the latter’s perception of the spread of the Christian faith. For EDIZIONI GBU he published the monumental Cristianesimi nell’antichità (2008) and Cristianesimo e Islam (2016).
