But in the Russia-Ukraine conflict there are other aspects that should be considered, amongst which the religious dimension stands out, linked in particular to the majority Christian tradition, i.e. Orthodoxy, with which 71% of Russians and 78% of Ukrainians identify themselves. In this volume the author, starting from the pragmatic cooperation between the Patriarch of Moscow Vladimir Michajlovic Gundjaev (Kirill I) and President Vladimir Vladimirovic Putin, both born in St Petersburg, explores and illustrates the way in which the “R factor” (the religion factor), as defined by Paolo Naso in the Preface, is influencing not only the dramatic evolution of the conflict but also the dynamics of the geopolitical landscape of this historic moment. The volume also contains a rich documentation that testifies to the plurality of the voices of confessions and Christian churches that are rising and trying to overcome the roar of the war. Massimo Rubboli taught North-American History and History of Christianity at the University of Genoa, and has published several books and articles illustrating the historical events of Christianity and in particular some geographical areas as well as some churches. He directs the series “Horizons of Christian thought” for EDIZIONI GBU. Paolo Naso teaches Political Science at the Sapienza University of Rome. He coordinates the Study Commission for Integration Dialogue of the Federation of Evangelical churches in Italy. He is a member of the scientific committee for the International Forum for Democracy and Religions and chairs the Council for relations with Islam at the Ministry of the Interior."}
